Every time I get the opportunity to travel to New York city I have this feeling of overwhelming independence, especially when I make myself get lost and not follow my dot around on the maps app. I have a strong admiration of the women especially in New York. There is an air of confidence and strong personality that you can sense in the city.

On our past trip I sent a text to my friend Meghan saying I really wanted to spend my time practicing photography and shooting girls that call the blocks of the city home while surviving as artist, she said "well those are all of my friends" so we set something up and I got the chance to shoot and ask a couple photo taking, bar hopping, New York living woman what it was actually like calling New York City home.

I think forging my own territory in a place so crowded ignites my independence. Thusly, knowing I'm never alone makes it feel nice to step out on my own.

Meet Madeline, New York raised taking hipster beauty to a new level:

From what I see you are so comfortable in your own skin in New York ,tell me what ignites your independence in this city.
I was raised in upstate New York, where my day to day life was often dictated by what was available to me. In this city, my day to day life is based around whatever passion I feel like delving into in that moment. There are so many opportunities at your fingertips everyday, it's really inspiring. It's allowed me to step away from my comfort zone and really explore my independence.

I think pictures are a freeze frame of a time in our life, what are pictures to you?
You can look at a picture and remember exactly how that moment in time made you feel. Whether it's happiness, sadness, or anything in between, pictures have a really beautiful way of evoking emotion and allowing you to relive a moment in time that was significant to you. So I suppose in that sense they can be a form of therapy.
What is friendship to you?
Someone who will split their last piece of gum with you.
Beauty has a love hate relationship with woman, what are your secret beauty regimens to make it less hateful?
I've learned not to fuss around as much with an elaborate beauty routine. Keep it simple, easy and most importantly, consistent. Take days off from wearing makeup and you'll learn to appreciate your natural beauty. Also, coconut. oil. is. everything.
What is your spirit animal?
I took an online quiz once that said my spirit animal is a turtle. I think I'll take it.
